Chapter 03 · Have fun, be safe

Safety Tips for Your Stay

We want you to have fun - but most importantly, be safe. We can't cover everything here, but here are a few tips.

Water safety

Be safe and always have adult supervision. In the home is a pair of binoculars so observers can keep an eye on things. In the garage is a selection of men's, women's and youth size life jackets.

First aid kit

In the laundry room closet is a first aid kit with general supplies. The closest option for additional items is Meijer, a 12 minute drive from the home. For any emergency, dial 911.

Fire extinguishers

Three are in the house: in the laundry room, in the garage, and in the basement inside the kitchen cabinet. Please take a minute to locate them.

Two gas fireplaces

The home has two gas fireplaces, to be operated by adults only. Reminder: make sure the damper is open before lighting a fire.

Outdoor fire pit

You're welcome to enjoy the fire pit. Meijer and EZ Market usually sell firewood by the bundle. Always have adult supervision, and never leave it burning unattended.

Gas grill

Please don't move the grill - the tile backer is a heat blocker and barrier from the home. Double-check the gas is off when done, and never leave it unattended while on.

Decks & steps

The deck and stairs can be slippery when wet, or icy in winter. Practice caution, and never lean or sit on the guard rails.

Backyard landscape

The backyard is steep and landscaped with rocks, bushes and water features. Don't venture off the decks and walkways.
